To qualify for the DPIIT Certificate of Recognition, startups must adhere to the following criteria:
- Period of existence of the entity should not exceed 10 years from the date of formation.
- The entity must be incorporated as a Private Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), or Registered Partnership Firm.
- Annual turnover should not exceed Rs. 100 crore for any fiscal year since its inception.
- The entity should not be formed by splitting up or recreating an already existing entity.
- The entity must demonstrate innovation and scalability in its business model, with the potential for wealth creation and employment generation.
Procedure to Obtain DPIIT Certificate
To acquire the DPIIT certificate, startups must follow these steps:
- Incorporate the business as a Private Limited Company, Partnership firm, or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP).
- Register the business with the Startup India Scheme.
- Apply for startup recognition through the Startup India Recognition portal, providing entity details, address, details of the authorized representative, directors or partner details, intellectual property rights details, funding details, and any recognition received by the entity.
- Upon approval by the ministry and receipt of the unique startup recognition number, startups become eligible for tax benefits.
